Babura Jarjums

Our Babura Jarjums Program, meaning Children in the Garden, is a hands-on sustainability initiative designed to teach children the importance of caring for the environment and understanding where food comes from. This program connects children with nature and promotes lifelong skills in responsibility, respect, and healthy living.

What does the program include?

  • Worm Farm – Children learn how worms recycle food scraps into nutrient-rich compost, reducing waste and supporting soil health.
  • Gardening and Harvesting – Children plant, nurture, and harvest herbs, vegetables, and fruits, gaining an understanding of growth cycles and the value of fresh produce.
  • Kitchen Connections – Harvested produce is used in cooking experiences, teaching children about healthy eating and encouraging them to try new foods.
  • Community Garden – Our garden is open to families, creating opportunities for shared learning and community involvement. Families are invited to contribute ideas, help maintain the garden, and enjoy the harvest together.
  • Indigenous Perspectives -We are proud to include an Indigenous local Elder in delivering this program. The Elder will share cultural knowledge and perspectives on sustainability, traditional uses of plants, and the deep connection between First Nations people and the land. Children will learn about caring for Country, respecting nature, and understanding how Indigenous practices promote balance and sustainability.

Babura Jarjums fosters respect for nature, promotes sustainability, and strengthens community connections while embedding Indigenous knowledge and values into everyday learning.

Language Lessons as Part of Our Diversity and Cultural Program

At our centre, we value diversity and believe that every child benefits from learning about different cultures and languages. As part of our cultural inclusion program, one of our educators will be introducing language lessons to the children. These sessions are designed to be fun, interactive, and age-appropriate, helping children develop an appreciation for different languages and cultures.

Through songs, stories, and simple words or phrases, children will explore greetings, numbers, music, cultural props and everyday expressions in another language. This experience not only supports cultural awareness but also promotes respect, empathy, and curiosity about the world around them.

Learning a new language in early childhood has many benefits, including:

  • Building cognitive skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Enhancing communication skills and understanding of diversity.
  • Fostering a sense of belonging for children from different cultural backgrounds.

We encourage families to share words or phrases from their home language so we can include them in our lessons. This helps create a rich, inclusive environment where every child’s culture is celebrated.

Music Fridays with Mr Jason

Every Friday, Mr Jason brings joy to the children through music. Their faces light up when they see his guitar, and they love singing and moving to their favourite songs. These experiences are more than fun, they support early brain development, language skills, and school readiness.

Music engages all areas of development: intellectual, social-emotional, motor, and language, while helping the body and mind work together. Singing and dancing build coordination, self-expression, and emotional wellbeing. Music is also a powerful tool for self-regulation, helping children manage emotions and focus.

Our approach draws on RAMSR (Rhythm and Movement for Self-Regulation), using rhythm and movement activities to teach calming strategies and resilience. Through music, children learn, grow, and thrive. By engaging in rhythmic patterns, clapping, and movement games, children practice calming strategies and improve their ability to cope with big feelings in a positive way.
